Tampa Baker and the Bucs dominated the Eagles on Monday night 32-9. Nobody believed in this Tampa Bay team. Everyone wrote Baker Mayfield off after his time in Cleveland. Now, they’re playing Detroit in the divisional round of the playoffs. What a statement. Many things went into the downfall of the Eagles last night. Lets take a look.
Lets start with all the missed tackles. Ray Lewis had a few things to say on the ManningCast and he was not impressed. “Oh my. Oh my.” is right, Ray. It seems like the Eagles got soft on defense when Matt Patricia took over play calling during Seahawks week. That may be my bias against Patricia, but that’s right around the time Philly started to go downhill. The Eagles defense ranked 26th in the league and it showed last night. Its so curious though, with all the talent they have on defense, Brandon Graham, Jalen Carter, Fletcher Cox, Jordan Davis, James Bradberry, Avonte Maddox, Small Play Slay, all these guys. How was Tampa Bay able to do whatever they wanted? Run up the middle? Yup. Run outside? Yup. Deep ball? Whatever you want to do Baker!
Mayfield went 22/36. 337 yards, 3 TD’s 0 INT’s. I mean, that’s as good as you can hope for against Philly. Cade Otton, David Moore, Mike Evans, and even Trey Palmer getting into the mix! Rachaad White had 18 touches for 72 yards but it seemed like he ran up and down the field on ‘em! Todd Bowles’ defense dominated Philly’s offense throughout. They had a third quarter safety that seemed to take any momentum out of that offense and held the Eagles to 275 yards of total offense. Watch it here:
Now, Tampa Bay has their compass set to Detroit for a divisional round playoff game. What year is it again? In their last matchup, Detroit won 20-6, Jared Goff threw for 353 yards and Amonra St-Brown had 12 catches for 124 yards. The Lions rank 2nd in passing, 5th in passing, and its worth noting they finished 3rd best in the redzone! Lions defense finished 19th in yards allowed, 23rd in points allowed, and 27th against the pass. But man, watching them it doesn’t seem like it! Just refer to the game against Kansas City!
It seems like a good matchup for the Bucs as Detroit finished as the 29th defense in the redzone. It’s safe to say the Bucs will have their hands full with this offense. As long as Jamel Dean and that defense has another spectacular game and Baker is on point again, I think they can handle Hutchinson and the Lions defense. It’ll be an offensive shootout I think, but Im pulling for Tampa Baker!
